HISTORY:

For many years, the only style of IPA you could get your hands on was the English IPA or simply put IPA (See India Pale Ale / IPA for more information and history).

In 2018 the Brewers Association classed New England IPA’s as there own distinct style of ale. They are also referred to as Hazy or Juicy IPA’s.

John Kimmich (brewer – The Alchemist) is credited with the creation of this style of ale with a American Double Pale Ale called – Heady Topper – in 2003.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Clarity: Hazy Pale
  • ABV: Typically 6% to 8%
  • Carbonation: None to low
  • Typical Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Velma
  • Aroma: High Hop Aroma – peachy hints
  • Taste: Low to mild bitterness with juicy tropical flavours.
